Thunderbird is a popular opensource desktop application used as e-mail client owned by Mozilla (owners of the famous web browser – Mozilla Firefox). Infact, I love Firefox browser and Thunderbird too which are my default web browser and default e-mail client. Thunderbird runs very stable, lightweight and yet free to use. Thanks to Mozilla. I would like to review its features briefly to consider why its different from other e-mail clients available in the market.
Key Features:
- Thunderbird is a full-featured email application with powerful and customizable options and yet easy & simple to use.
- Retrieves emails using IMAP and POP mail protocols from Mail Servers via internet.
- Allows to send e-mails with HTML formatting.
- Built-in RSS to retrieve feeds from your favorite websites (ex: http://feeds.thefinalguide.com/thefinalguide).
- Quick search, Spell checker (immediately suggests corrects words upon typing wrong spellings).
- Spam filter or Junk Mail filter allows to filter junk mails and it’ll be improved to filter whenever mails are marked spam.
- You can find advanced security features in Thunderbird like Message encryption, Digital Signing, Support for digital certificates etc. Even though mail attachments contain exe files (which can autorun) will be prevented from execution without your permission.
- Ability to customize toolbars
- Automatically downloads updated security features
- Anti-Phishing feature to protect from e-mail scams.
You can download stable version Thunderbird 3.1 from Mozilla Messaging for which you can have support.
You can download Thunderbird 5.0 Beta 1 from FileHippo.com which is under Beta level for which you can test and submit bugs. Features found in this new version…
- New Add-ons Manager (for add-ons, extensions, plugins etc.) like you see in Mozilla Firefox browser
- Each mail account can be opened in a new tab (right click on a mail account and choose Open in New Tab)
- Nice wizard to create and setup e-mail accounts
- Size of Attachment will be displayed in the mail itself along with other mail information.
For More Information visit Mozilla Messaging.
Note: If you would like to install new version of Thunderbird (while using an earlier version), please uninstall earlier version before installing new version.
